Funeral services for Katie Lou Hocutt Cohea, 88, of Leland will be at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. She passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at South Sunflower County Hospital surrounded by all of her girls.
Katie was born in Samantha, AL where she attended school and later moved to Dublin, MS. She was a longtime resident of Shaw, where she owned and operated Cohea’s Furniture. After retiring she moved to Leland to be near family and later started working at Heilig-Meyers Furniture in Greenville for several more years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Annie Hocutt of Bessemer, AL. A son, Ricky McCool, brothers, Eugene Hocutt, William Hocutt, Joseph Hocutt, Larry Hocutt, Lynn Hocutt, and Herbert Hocutt, and sisters, Katherine Bridges and Clara Mitchell.
She is survived by daughters, Carolyn Riddle of Leland and Sandra (Bob) Barnes of Glen Allan. Her five grandchildren, Chandra (Steve) Redwine of Leland, Shelley (Robert) Nelson of Eads, TN, Collin (Jamie) Watson of Smithville, MS, Scott (Donna) Watson of Glen Allan and Kyle (Betsy) Watson of Indianola; eight great-grandchildren, Grayce Redwine, Emma Nelson, Zach Nelson, Cole Watson, Caitlyn Watson, Addy Watson, Brayden Watson, and Oakleigh Watson; a brother, Michael (Amy) Hocutt; sisters, Louise Bridges and Ruth Finley; sister-in-law, Debra Hocutt, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Eddie Donahoe and his nurses at South Sunflower County Hospital for always taking such good care of our mother/grandmother. A special thank you to Adoration Home Health, Elder Care of Cleveland, and Quality In Home Care of Indianola for being there for her this past year. Also, to Rebecca Chunn, Vicki Reginelli, Sue Tanksley, Demetria Washington, and Alexis Washington for always being there to lend that extra helping hand. She loved each one of you.
There will be a visitation at 11:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
