Lai Kin Young

Funeral services for Lai Kin Young, 100, of Greenville will be at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 3 at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.  She died Saturday, February 23 at her home surrounded by her family.  Burial will be in the Greenville Chinese Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mrs. Young was born in China in 1918 and at the age of 20 she married Alfred Chu Young.    She and her husband were shopkeepers on the island of Trinidad prior to moving to America in 1957.  She proudly became an American Citizen shortly after arriving.  They moved to Greenville in 1973 where they were shopkeepers and founded Howard’s Grocery on Broadway Street.

In 1987 she accepted Christ and was a member of the Chinese Mission at First Baptist Church.

Lai Kin “Lily”, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister will be fondly remembered for her longevity and cheerful spirit.

She is survived by her son, Robert Chu; brother, Qiu Qiu Fong; four granddaughters, Elizabeth, Mary, Selina, and Jessica Chu; three great grandchildren; five nephews, Tony Chu Yow, Francis Chu Yow, Michael Chu Yow, Bei Si Feng, and Fun Fung; and two nieces, Fay Sit and Marion Chu Yow.

There will be a visitation from 1:30-2:30 p.m., on Sunday at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
