Funeral services for Leo Daniel Tarpley, Sr., 74, of Indianola will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 29 at Eastwood Baptist Church, 549 Dorsett Drive, Indianola. Burial will be in Indianola City Cemetery.
He went to be with his Lord on January 25, 2016 at South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola, MS after a brief battle with lung cancer. Leo was born in Charleston, Missouri on April 17, 1941, son of the late Emmett Etheridge Tarpley, Sr. and the late Janie “Jennie” Williamson Tarpley.
Besides his parents, Leo was preceded in death by four brothers, William Henry Tarpley, Emmett Etheridge Tarpley, Jr., Hershel Randolph Tarpley and Clifton Lee Tarpley and by two sisters, Ella Marie Tarpley Sledge and Annie Belle Tarpley Colburn, mother and father-in-law, Victor and Christine Rigby, and brother-in-law, Donald Ray Rigby.
Leo is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Janice Rigby Tarpley of Indianola, MS, children, Natalie Tarpley Ward (Brian) of West Monroe, LA, Leo Daniel Tarpley, Jr. (Dewana) of Tyler, TX, Sandy Tarpley McCormic (Jody) of Many, LA and Lindsey Shane Tarpley of Greenville, MS; adopted son, Jeffrey Burchfield of West Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Bethany McCormic, Taylor McCormic, Kerrington McCormic, Delaine Tarpley and Dale Tarpley, one great granddaughter, AdaLynn Kate McCormic, and special niece Mary Ann Ford. Leo is also survived by the mother of his children, Florence Burchfield, sister-in-law, Laura Ann Rigby Jennings (Billy Wayne) of Crosby, TX, adopted grandchildren, Lydia Burchfield, Jackson Burchfield and special friend, Ann Hendon.
There will be a visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 28 at Eastwood Baptist Church and there will also be a visitation one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.
