It’s with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Lillie “Mommee” Merle Rivers Stokes at the age of 87. She passed away Friday, October 11, 2024, at Washington Care Center in Greenville.
She was born October 23, 1936, in Isola, MS to Claude and Lucy May Rivers.
Lillie’s life was a life well lived in her 87 years. She was the epitome of grace, beauty, strength, humility, and love. She was a true Christian lady who lived her life full of Jesus, family, and friends. She was a beautiful soul who was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all.
She was a Bookkeeper for Delta and Pine Land for many years but most of all she was a “Delta Farmer’s” wife. She lived in Arcola for many years before moving to Hermitage, TN. She returned to Greenville, MS in 2022 to be close to her family.
She is survived by her children Dale “Boise” Stokes Jr. (Tina) of Greenville, Cindy Willmer of Hollandale, and Clay Stokes of Jackson. Her sisters Ronnie (Fred) Hyer, Nola (Pete) Roncali and Edna Eugenia Odenwald.
Her grandchildren Tabetha (John) Gentry, Tiffany Lindsey, Julie (Jimmy) Jackson, Jessica Stokes, Jason Vick, Amanda (Jackson) Rochier, Ashley Hensley, Holden Sullivan, Hunter Stokes, Lauren Austin, and several great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale Boise Stokes Sr., her daughter Heather Sullivan, siblings Waymon Rivers, Fred “Bucky” Rivers, Lucile Rivers, Katie B. Bagley, Claudie M. Bagley, Mattie P. Webb, and Betty A. Goza.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville with visitation prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at County Line Community Cemetery in Glen Allen, MS.
Pastor John Gentry will be officiating the service.
