Lona “Babe” Hendrix

Graveside services for Lona “Babe” Hendrix, 88, of Greenville will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 5, 2013 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. She died July 2, 2013 at Delta Regional Medical Center.  Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.

She was born in Leland in 1924 to Willie M. and Sarah Ray Hendon and attended local schools.  In 1951, she married William Thomas “Billy” Hendrix, Jr. to whom she was married until his death in 1997.  She started her career in retail at the Smart Shop in downtown Greenville and went on  to dress many women in the Delta at the Mannequin Shop and Dattel & Company.  Babe will be fondly remembered for her style, elegance and kindness.  Her family is grateful to God for the life she lived, the life she shared and for her life eternal.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy, her brothers, Leroy “Jim” Hendon, Cloy Hendon and Tommy Hendon, and her sisters, Bill Archer and Margaret Dorman.  She is survived by her three children, Sissy Gardner (Tony), Tommy Hendrix (Janice) and Bobby Hendrix (Debi), six grandchildren,  Hunter Gardner, Walker Gardner, Thomas Hendrix, Maegan Hendrix, Elliot Hendrix and Madeleine Hendrix and one great granddaughter, Ava Grace Meeks.  She also leaves a special sister-in-law, Tez Hendon, and nephew, Lee Hendon, as well as a host of other nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to give heartfelt thanks to the staff of Magnolia Gardens and Delta Regional Home Health and Hospice for their love and care.
