Graveside services for Lonnie Wayne Whisler, 76, of Leland will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the Greenville Cemetery. He passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024.
Lonnie was born to Rita (Ruta) Whisler and Jay Byron Whisler on Nov. 18, 1948 in Enid, Oklahoma. He attended Watonga Public Schools until 1967 when he joined the United States Marine Corps. He did his basic training at Camp Pendleton and a tour of duty in Vietnam before coming back to the Watonga area.
Lonnie spent most of his adult life working in auto body shops, a trade he learned from his father Jay. He also did various other jobs including working on oil rigs in Oklahoma and Texas.
His last move found him in Mississippi, where he met and married his current wife, Patricia. They made their home in Leland, Mississippi.
He is preceded in death by his parents Rita and Jay Whisler, a sister, Geri Springer, and one nephew Kevin Dyer.
He is survived by his wife Patricia of the home, two sisters Nancy Jo Hiler and Regina Murray both from the OKC area and his son Michael Allen Whisler of El Reno, and step son Stevie Atkins. Also survived by three grandsons Kristopher Brock Whisler, Charles Jay Dunson, and Jesse Robert Whisler as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and many other friends and family in both Oklahoma and Mississippi.
