Louie Franklin “Frank” Boykin, Sr.

Funeral services for Louie Franklin “Frank” Boykin, Sr., 75, of Leland will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 9 at Boone Funeral Home, Leland. He died Friday, September 1 at his home. Burial will be in Hollandale Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland. 

Frank was born on September 5, 1941 in Catchings, MS to Howard Louie Boykin and Floy Boykin. He graduated from Anguilla High School and attended Mississippi Delta Junior College on a scholarship to play basketball and baseball. Frank served in the National Guard and was mobilized during hurricane Camille and was active in the Civil Defense in Greenville and Leland area during the 1960’s and 1970’s. 

Frank started working at the U.S. Department of Agriculture experiment station in Stoneville at the age of 20. He worked in Cotton Mechanization and had several of his testing machines patented by the USDA. Frank retired from USDA after 38 years of service. He spent his days in retirement managing Clint Johnson’s rental properties. 

Frank coached champion little league baseball teams in Leland and his favorite past time was watching westerns and football games. Frank loved his grandchildren. 

He is survived by a son, Louie Franklin “Frankie” Boykin, Jr. (Pam) of Grenada; brother, Lonnie “Gene” Boykin (Judy) of Mayersville; stepdaughter, Jean Downs (Jim); 2 stepsons, Jody Grammer (Connie) and Eddie Grammer; and by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hurricane Harvey relief fund or to your favorite charity.
