Lucy Fisher

Funeral services for Lucy Allen Puckett Fisher, 88, of Indianola will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 17, 2013 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Indianola.  A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, died on October 14, 2013. Burial will be in Indianola City Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Card Funeral Home, Indianola.

Lucy was born on January 14, 1925 to Lucy (McClanahan) and Allen Puckett in Columbus where she was fondly known as Babe. She attended MSCW but was graduated from University of Tennessee with her life-long friend and roommate Sarah Livingston Fowler and joined Tri Delta sorority. In 1948 she married Jacob Peter “Pete” Fisher and moved to the Delta town of Sunflower, Mississippi to begin a farming operation and raise a family.

Lucy was an avid gardener, well known for her beautifully landscaped yard and gift for flower arranging. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining in her home, playing tennis and traveling. As an excellent bridge player, she helped establish duplicate bridge at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church which endured over 50 years. As a very active member of the church, she served in almost every capacity, leading by example, joyously giving thanks to the Lord, and always seeking God’s grace and direction to do his will.

Subsequently, her husband Pete retired from farming and they built a home along the bayou in Indianola where she enjoyed drinking coffee in bed and observing God’s creatures in close proximity.

God blessed Lucy with a wide community of friends including the neighborhood children who fondly called her Nunu and like her own grandchildren shared in her nature adventures to discover “curiosities.” She was known for her outgoing and warm personality, genuine friendship, and jokes on April Fool’s Day. She leaves her family and friends with many happy and heart-felt memories.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings Allen B. “Sonny” Puckett and Mary Jo Puckett. Her spirit remains with her sister Betty P. Holland of Indianola; children Pete (Martha) Fisher of Rolling Fork, David (Beth) Fisher of Indianola, Catherine (Ronnie) Hames of Madison, and Lucy Allen (Owen) Ray of Oakland, Tennessee;  her many grandchildren Swayze (Matthew) Hicks, Peter (Leslie) Fisher, Liza (Patrick) Robinson, Laurie Fisher (Paul Karas), Ellen (Charles) Durst, Catie (James) Stoltzfus, Mary Fisher Hames, Allen (Raj) Pillai, David Ray, and Owen Ray; and 8 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 a.m, Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the church in the parish hall. Memorials may be made to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 205 E. Gresham, Indianola, MS 38751 or memorial of your choice.
