Marion Boyd Rich, loving mother of three children passed away at the age of 90 on Monday, August 19, 2019. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Greenfield Cemetery in Glen Allan. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Marion was born on September 11, 1928, in Wynne, Arkansas. She married M. H. “Sonny” Rich in 1947. They raised two sons, Mel and George, and one daughter, Leanna.
Marion attended Glen Allan schools and Millsaps College. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greenville and was a member of many clubs and organizations including the DAR, the Greenville Garden Club and Junior Auxiliary. She also worked diligently on several boards and served her community tirelessly.
Marion had a passion for cooking and entertaining, the perfect hostess on many memorable occasions for her family and friends. She was happiest when surrounded by family and was the family’s matriarch. All who knew her described her as a “true Southern lady”, who always exhibited style and grace and was never without her lipstick. She was kind and compassionate to everyone she encountered in her life.
Marion was preceded in death by her husband, M. H. “Sonny” Rich, and two brothers, Jim Boyd and Patrick Boyd. She is survived by her daughter and two sons: Mel Rich of Barnell, South Carolina; Leanna (Brad) Morgan of Chelsea, Alabama; and George (Shirley) Rich of Germantown, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Rich Powell, John Duncan Powell, Ben Rich, Hampton Rich Akers, Sara Rich Donovan, and Sean Rich. She also had three great grandchildren. Marion is also survived by her devoted brother, John W. Boyd (Caroline) of Denmark, South Carolina and two sister-in-laws, Diane Boyd of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Dorothy Rich of Ocala, Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the charity of your choice. A visitation will follow at her home at 1328 Lake Washington Road, Glen Allan, MS.
