A Celebration of life for Marjorie Mae Hargett (“Mae”) Jones, 81, of Bethel Heights, AR and formerly of Greenville, MS will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 2, 2019 at Greenville Bible Church. She passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019. Burial will be Greenlawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Mrs. Jones was born in Decatur, Alabama on May 22, 1938 the daughter of Clarris Aubrey Hargett and Louie Elizabeth Hames Hargett.
After moving to Greenville in 1958 she attended the Church of the Open Door, where she asked Jesus to forgive her sins and save her. In Greenville she met William Crosby Jones, and they were married on November 20, 1960. She worked for over 18 years at McMillan Supply Company and for over 20 years at Greenville Compress. Soon after Mae and Bill married, they entered into a ministry of love and service to others. Although they had no children of their own, they took in children and provided for their needs. They became affectionately known as Aunt Mae and Uncle Bill.
In 2011, Mae wrote a summary of God’s plan of salvation, the “IF” booklet. By January of 2018 a total of 55,000 booklets had been printed and widely distributed. Mae took up quilling as a hobby in 1974. Her work was prominently displayed in her home, and was publicly exhibited in 2014 at the E. E. Bass Cultural Arts Center in Greenville.
The couple moved to Bethel Heights, Arkansas, in August 2017, to live with their beloved niece. Even at the end of her life, Mae’s faith remained unshakable. She was fond of quoting Oswald Chambers, “If God has made your cup sweet, drink it with grace; or even if He has made it bitter, drink it in communion with Him.”
Mae is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, William C. Jones; a sister, Frances Faye Hargett Hutto; a brother, Billy Hargett; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Clarris, Jr., Roy Charles, and James Hargett; and one sister, Mary Sue Hargett.
There will be a visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Monday, December 2, 2019 at Greenville Bible Church.
