Funeral Services for Martha Agnes Oakes Mooney will be held at 2:00 p.m, Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Moorhead Baptist Church. She died Friday, February 2, at home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Moorhead Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Indianola.
Martha was born September 14, 1929, the second daughter of Luther Bryan and Daisy Cook Oakes of Moorhead, Mississippi. She married W. D. Mooney on March 14, 1946. W. D. preceded her in death on February 25, 1994. Martha was also preceded in death by her sisters, Juanita Whatley, Maggie Louise Oakes, and Maxine Oakes and brothers, James A. Oakes and Luther Bryan Oakes, Jr., as well as her granddaughter, Rachel Agnes Hankins.
Martha was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be missed by many.
Survivors include daughters, Ann Hitchcock of Greenville, Nan Johnson of Leland, Jewel Hankins (Al) of Grenada; sister, Geneva Oakes Bragg of Panama City Beach, Florida; brothers, Donald Wayne Oakes (Sherry) of Indianola and James Wayne Oakes of Grand Bay, Alabama; and grandchildren, Lyn Johnson Terrell (Mitch), Wendy Way Koenigsberger, Jay Johnson (Kassie), Mandy Hankins McCormick, Dawn Way Bryant (Chad), and Amber Hankins. Martha was blessed to have a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren to call her Mamaw.
A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. preceding the services on Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to Moorhead Baptist Church, Moorhead Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or to a charity of donor’s choice.
