Funeral services for Martha Ann Dornbusch Eskrigge, 89, of Flowood and formerly of Greenville will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21 at St. James Episcopal Church in Greenville, MS. She died on Monday, October 16. Burial will be in the Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Martha was born at Oakland Plantation in Redwood, MS, on March 20, 1928, to Herman Beidenharn Dornbusch and Annie Birchett Brown. She graduated from Carr Central High School in Vicksburg in 1946. She continued her education at Mississippi University for Women where she graduated in 1950 with a degree in social work. She then moved to New York City and earned her master’s degree in social work from Columbia University the following year.
She returned to Mississippi and settled in Greenville where she met Richard Eskrigge. They were married on August 8, 1953, at Crawford Street United Methodist Church in Vicksburg. Martha and Richard called Greenville their home where they raised their four boys while attending St. James Episcopal Church. She served her community as a member of the Junior Auxiliary of Greenville, King’s Daughters Circle, and the Greenville Garden Club. She worked as a social worker for many years at Delta Mental Health until her retirement.
Martha was a loving and devoted sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a true friend and a Southern lady and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, two of her sons, Richard D. Eskrigge and Robert B. Eskrigge. She is survived by sons, Charles N. Eskrigge and John V. Eskrigge (Suzanne); daughter-in-law, Sloan Stock Eskrigge; and five grandchildren, Elizabeth Eskrigge Schamp (Tim), Brock Eskrigge (Kelsey), Mary Cayce Eskrigge, Worth Eskrigge, and Grace Ann Eskrigge.
There will be a visitation from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials can be made to St. James Episcopal Church, 1026 S. Washington Ave., Greenville, MS, 38701.
