Funeral services for Martha McCormack Saucier, 93, of Forney, TX and formerly of Leland, MS will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 20 at First Baptist Church, Leland. She died Tuesday, May 16 in Forney, TX. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
Martha was born July 23, 1923, the daughter of Thomas Andrew McCormack and Nellie Blanch McCormack. Martha accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at the age of 10. She lived her life, setting a Christian example for her family as well as for the many students she taught in public schools. She graduated from high school in Coffeeville, MS in 1941. She graduated from Northwest Junior College in Senatobia, MS in 1943. She was a graduate of the University of Mississippi, “Ole Miss”, where she earned her degree in Home Economics. After taking classes at Miss. State, she was qualified to teach elementary education.
Martha taught elementary education for 25 years, in grades first, third and fifth. She was licensed in cosmetology and owned and operated her business in two locations. She lived in several towns in Mississippi…Coffeeville, Ingomar, Carrollton, Kilmichael and Leland. Later in life she moved to Forney, TX where she lived with her daughter and her family for 16 years and her last 10 months at Three Forks Assisted Living.
Martha was an active member in several Baptist Churches. She worked in Vacation Bible Schools, young adult bible classes and after retirement, with the senior adults. After moving to Forney, TX she was a member of First Baptist Church in Forney and attended church and Sunday school there until her health declined.
Her hobbies were cake decorating, photography, gardening, crocheting and sewing. She enjoyed fishing and traveling with her husband, until his death in 1993. Her last years were filled with joy as she cherished time with her great grandchildren and their families.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Corbett Keith Saucier, her parents, one brother and two sisters.
She leaves her son, Don Saucier of Phoenix, AZ and daughter Teresa Treadway and husband Charles of Forney, TX. She also leaves two granddaughters Emily Treadway Greer and husband Dave of Oak Ridge, TN and Susan Treadway Frush and husband David of Fate, TX. Her great grandchildren are Solomon, Elias and Caleb Greer and Trevor, Briley and Kaylie Frush.
