Funeral services for Mary Ann (Murdock) Harbison, 78, of Houston, Texas, and formerly of Greenville, Mississippi, and Helena, Arkansas, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, at the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville. She died on Thursday, June 18, 2015, in Houston, following a brief illness. Burial will be in the Greenville Cemetery.
She was born on January 4, 1937, in Sherman, Mississippi, to John and Ann Simmons Murdock. As a very young child she moved to Helena, where she graduated from Central High School. Mary Ann attended both the Mississippi State University for Women and the University of Mississippi where she was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority. She moved from Helena to Greenville in 1979 with her husband, Billy, as they formed the Arkansas River Company. She was an integral part of the company’s success and worked side by side with her husband for many years. She was an active member of the Greenville Garden Club and supported many of its educational programs. She was a loving, sweet person who will be missed by family and friends alike.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Billy. She leaves behind three children, Murdock Ann Harbison of Pensacola, Florida; Amee Burgoyne and her husband, Bob, of McLean, Virginia; and Rev. W. Scott Harbison and his wife, Debbie, of Houston. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Riker Vermilye and Katelyn, Cassie, and Olivia Harbison.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Greenville Garden Club; First Presbyterian Church, Greenville; St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church, Houston, TX; or the charity of your choice.
