Mary Helen Smith

Mary Helen Smith of Clifton, and formerly of Leland, MS, went to see Jesus December 21, 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Greenville, Mississippi. Pastor Trey Stevens will officiate. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Greenville, Mississippi. Pallbearers will be Turner McGaugh, Christopher Smith, Matt Hood, Darryl Miles, Jr., Jamie McGaugh, and Johnny Miles.

Mary Helen resided in Clifton, TX at Lutheran Sunset Ministries where she received the best of care, developed amazing friendships, and was loved abundantly.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband James W. Smith, Sr. (Jamie) in 2006, her son James W. Smith, Jr. (Jimmy) in 2019, her sister, Grace Oglesby, and her brother Joe Stewart.  She is survived by her daughter Leah Miles, son-in-law, Darryl Miles; grandchildren Christina Hood, Christopher Smith, Amanda McGaugh, Darryl Miles, Jr., Taylor Miles; and great-grandchildren, Mary Alexis, James, Raylan, Rivers, Oaklan, Elaina, Ember, and Harper Rose.  She is also survived by an extended family of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.  Phyllis Stevens and Melvin Oglesby have been ever present in her life.

Mary Helen has been described as an “Angel from Heaven” by most people that knew her.  She was a beautiful lady who had a sweet spirit and a heart for the Lord.  She was a devoted and loving wife and mother who will forever be in our hearts and minds.  We were all blessed by her presence in our lives.  She was a true woman of faith.  Now her faith has turned into sight.

After the brief graveside service to celebrate Mary Helen’s life, the family would like for you to join them in continued celebration at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3600 Glendale Rd., Greenville, MS 38703 for food, fun, and fellowship.
