Funeral services for Mary Jane Nicholson, age 78, of Glen Allan will be held at noon on Tuesday, August 3, at Lake Washington Baptist Church. She died Saturday, July 31 at Sharkey Issaquena Community Hospital in Rolling Fork. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery, Glen Allan. Services are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Mrs. Nicholson was born in Booneville, MS and graduated from Booneville High School. She received an education degree from Blue Mountain College and a Masters in Education from Mississippi State University. She married James Nicholson, Jr. in 1962, and they made their home in Anguilla. They later moved to Glen Allan. Mrs. Nicholson taught throughout the area for 42 years. While living in Anguilla, the Nicholsons were members of the Anguilla United Methodist Church, and in Glen Allan they were members of the Lake Washington Baptist Church. Mrs Nicholson was known and loved by many as “Gran-Mary”. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2017.
She is survived by a daughter, Jane Nicholson Barr (Chris) of Glen Allan; a son, James W. Nicholson III (Sherri) of Auburn, AL; 5 grandchildren, Caroline Barr, Ben Barr, Thomas Barr, Walt Nicholson, and Ali Nicholson; a sister, Jackie McGee of Booneville; a brother, Charles McGee (Mary) of Tupelo; a niece, Jessie McGee and nephew, Jake McGee (Kelsey).
