Max Curtis McWhorter

Graveside services for Max Curtis McWhorter, Sr., 71, of Greenville will be at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, February 1 at Leland-Stoneville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.  He passed away Thursday, January 30 at his home after an extended illness.

Mr. McWhorter was born February 19, 1942 in Marie, Mississippi the son of Alice Holeman McWhorter and Earl Curtis McWhorter.  His life work was in radio and television, and he has been retired from Mississippi Educational Television for ten years.  His passions were horses, German Shepherd show dogs, and ham radio.  Max was an active member of First Baptist Church, Greenville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Curtis McWhorter, Alice Holeman McWhorter, and Sara Reid McWhorter.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Taggart McWhorter of Greenville; a daughter, Sug M. Portwood of Oxford, MS; a son, Max Curtis McWhorter, Jr. of Hoover, AL; sister, Mary Alice “Meachie” Kahlstorf of Tupelo, MS; and two brothers, Gary Earl McWhorter of North Little Rock, AR and Frankie Williamson of Cleveland, MS.

Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Taggart of Dallas, Texas and nephews, Patrick Williams of Mountain Home, AR, Carey Williams of Fayetteville, AR, Burt Taggart III of Little Rock, AR, Eric Kahlstorf of Athens, GA, and George Loss of New Orleans, LA.   Honorary pallbearers are Artis Coleman, Charles Ernest Jones, J.D. Shepherd, and Frankie Trainer all of Greenville and Fred W. Abide of Leland.  Ministers are Dr. james Nichols and Reverend John Burke.

A visitation will be held Saturday 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
