Funeral services for Michael Andreu Smith, Sr., 70, of Greenville will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, February 8 at First United Methodist Church located at 402 Washington Ave. He died Sunday, February 4 at his business, Michael’s Pets in Greenville. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Michael was born and raised in Greenville, attending Saint Joseph High School, and eventually attending Mississippi State University. In 1970, he joined the Army and served in Vietnam as an Intelligence Officer. After the war, he returned to the states where he served in the National Guard as a Tank Commander, ultimately earning the rank of Sergeant First Class. After his military service, Michael opened his own business, Michael’s Pet shop, which he ran for over 43 years. He was also an avid plane enthusiast and certified pilot, boasting membership in the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He and his wife Linda were trained missionaries with Community Bible Study International in Sri Lanka. Because of their passion for this endeavor, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Bible Study International to benefit Sri Lanka.
Michael is survived by his wife, Linda Lucic Smith, two sons Michael Andreu Smith Jr of Asheville, NC, and Eric Lee Smith of Buckeye, AZ, and his sister Melanie Ann Melton, of Big Creek, MS.
There will be a visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 7 at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
