Funeral services for Mildred Loree Proctor Newsom, 97, of Glen Allan will be on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Lake Washington Baptist Church. There will be a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time. She died at Magnolia Gardens in Greenville on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Burial will be in the County Line Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Mrs. Newsom was born on September 17, 1927, and was a native of Ethel, MS, where she graduated from public school. She had been a longtime member of the Carson Ridge Baptist Church in Ethel, MS. In 1945, she married Ennis Edward Newsom, and they have lived in Glen Allan since 1955. Mrs. Newsom was employed with the Glen Allan Post Office in 1971, and in 1985, she became Postmaster. After 30 years of service, she retired in 2001. She was a member of the Lake Washington Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ennis; daughter, Becky Avis; sister, Mary Sims and brother, E.L. Proctor.
She is survived by three sons, Sam Newsom (Kay) of Greenville, Jim Newsom (Penny) of Glen Allan, and Bill Newsom (Sharon) of Greenville; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
