Graveside services for Carlene Brown McCarthy, 99, of Madison and formally of Leland will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 2, 2020 in the Leland-Stoneville Cemetery. She died June 28 at Saint Catherine’s Village in Madison, Mississippi. Services are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
Carlene was born in Charleston, Mississippi on November 25, 1920, the daughter of the late V.E. Farned and Alline Farned. She was a graduate of Cleveland High School and Delta State University. Following graduation, she taught school at Leland High School. In 1947 Carlene married Harold A. Brown and they resided in Leland until they relocated to St. Catherine’s Village in May 1999, where she has resided since. Harold died on February 6, 2005 after 58 years of marriage. On January 16, 2020 she married George W. McCarthy (Bill) who was also a resident of St. Catherine’s village. Bill passed away on January 20, 2013.
Carlene is preceded in death by her parents V.E. and Alline Farned, her sisters Jean Neal, and Gwen Bridewell and brothers Edgar Farned and Joe Farned (Polly). She is survived by her daughter Carlene B. Noone (Roddy) of Madison Mississippi, her granddaughter Lindsey M. Turk of Canton, Mississippi, her great-granddaughter Ryan McGee Cobb of Canton Mississippi.
A visitation will be held 10:00 – 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 2 at First Baptist Church, Leland. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Leland Mississippi.
