Nancy Claxton Riddle McCoy

Funeral service for Nancy Claxton Riddle McCoy, 91, of Prattville, AL, and formerly of Greenville, MS will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Greenville in the Chapel.  She passed away on June 17, 2023, at home.  Burial will be in the Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.

Nancy was the daughter of the late Dr. William Perry Claxton and Mary Winfield Scott.  She was born on December 15, 1931, in Birmingham, AL.  Upon graduation from Talladega High School, she attended Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham, AL.  In 1952, she moved to Greenville, MS where she was a member of First Baptist Church.  There she taught kindergarten and was the children’s choir Accompanist and Assistant Organist.  In 1968, she moved with her family to Paris, TN where she taught kindergarten at First Presbyterian Church and was organist for First Baptist Church. In 1976 she moved to Greenwood, MS where she served as a church organist and kindergarten teacher for North Greenwood Baptist Church.  She returned to Greenville in 1983 and became Executive Director for the Washington County Red Cross Chapter. During her tenure the chapter grew from one county to six counties and the name was changed to West Delta Charter.  In 2005 she retired and remained in Greenville until 2017 when she moved to Alabama to be closer to family.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. William P. Claxton, her sister, Billye Edwards Pace, her brother, W. Gerald Claxton, her spouses, N. David Riddle and Owen McCoy and her son, Billy Riddle.

She is survived by her sons, David (Buddy) Riddle, Gerry (Sherri) Riddle of Nixa, MO, Gene (Dianne) RIddle of Prattville, AL, Richard (Lavonna) Riddle of Oakland, TN, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

There will be a visitation on Friday at the church from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
