Funeral services for Nancy Jue Tom, 91, of Houston, TX will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2014 at First Baptist Church Chapel, Greenville, MS. She passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2014 after months of illness. Burial will be in Greenville Chinese Cemetery, Greenville, MS under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville, MS.
Nancy (as she was fondly called) was born on September 11, 1922 in Sunwui in Guangdong Province, China. Mom grew up in Fai Shee Ha, Sunwui. World War II forced her to relocate to Shanghai, then Hong Kong to avoid the harms of the war. In 1947, she married Wing Houew Tom and immigrated to Vicksburg, Mississippi. In 1951, Mom, Dad and children moved to Hollandale, Mississippi to manage her mother’s “Jue Grocery Store”. In 1963, they started “Tom’s Food Store” in Arcola, Mississippi. They called Arcola their hometown until they sold their store in 1990 to retire in Arcola. In 1995, Mom moved to Houston, Texas after the death of her husband to be closer to her grandchildren. While living in Houston, Mom became an active member of the Clear Lake Chinese Church where she professed her faith with the Senior Fellowship of the church.
Our beloved mother rests in peace with her loving husband, Wing Houew Tom. She was also preceded in death by her father, Jui Nai Jue; mother, Sit Ben Ho; and sister, Alice Ko. Mom is survived by her five children, Robert & wife Wilma, Susanna, Sonny, Dan & wife Phyllis, and Cathy Wong & husband Raymond; ten grandchildren, Robbie, Joshua, Michael, Brent, Meredith, Taft, Preston, Austin, Eric, and Alec; four great grandchildren, Chloe, Holland, Hudson and William; and Mom’s brother, Martin Jue & wife Betty Lou; brother, Bobby Jue & wife Laura; sister, May Gee & husband Peter; brother in law, Sam Ko, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday February 22, 2014 at the Greenville First Baptist Church Chapel, 407 Main St. in Greenville, Mississippi 38701. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday March 1, 2014 at the Clear Lake Chinese Church, 504 North Austin St, Webster, Texas 77598.
In lieu of flowers, our beloved mom requested that monetary remembrances be made to the Greenville Chinese Cemetery Association, 247 Woodlawn Drive, Greenville, Mississippi 38701, or to the Clear Lake Chinese Church. Monetary remembrances may also be made to the Greenville Chinese Cemetery Perpetual Fund, 404 Treadway Circle, Hollandale, Mississippi 38748.
