Nellie Faye Peeples

Nellie Faye Peeples, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025, at the age of 97. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home in Indianola with a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Indianola Memorial Gardens.

A lifelong resident of Indianola, Mississippi, Nellie and her husband Lynn worked for many years at the Ludlow factory. After Lynn’s passing in 1992, Nellie found new purpose and joy working first at Christ United Methodist Daycare, and later at Playcare, where she became a beloved cook and caregiver. Her years caring for children were among her happiest, and she often shared fond stories—especially of those who impressed her with a “happy plate.”

Nellie was a gifted gardener, a faithful friend, and the maker of one of the best chocolate pies you’d ever taste. Her home was always open, her kitchen always warm, and her heart always full.

Nellie was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Orlando Lynn Peeples, her parents Emmett Lee Steed and Willie Viola Steed, and her brothers Herman Ezell Steed, Herbert Lee Steed, Hubert Steed, Robert Louie Steed, Emmett Lee Steed Jr., and sisters Gladys Arnold and Bessie Steed Arnold.

For the past seven years, she had been living in Louisville, Mississippi, lovingly cared for by her only son, Gregory Lynn Peeples, and his wife, Cheri King Peeples.

She leaves behind a legacy of love through her three granddaughters: Sarah Peeples Clark (Justin) of Caledonia, MS; Anna Claire Peeples Willoughby (Andrew) of Nashville, TN; and Rachel Lynn Peeples of Oxford, MS. Nellie was also adored by her four great-grandchildren: Della and Jack Willoughby, and Bevy and Hudson Clark, who thought the world of their “Mammaw.”

Her time on earth was a gift to all who knew her. As we grieve her passing, we also give thanks for Nellie’s life, knowing she has found eternal rest in God’s kingdom.
