Funeral services for Norville Duane Thiry, 96, of Tupelo, MS will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 6, 2023 at Glen Allan United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors will be at Greenfield Cemetery in Glen Allan.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Novrville Duane Thiry. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.
Norville was born on August 20, 1926 in Greeley, Kansas to Mitchell Francis Thiry and Ada Fern Goodwill. He graduated from Turlock High School in Turlock, California. His first job was as a taxi driver in Turlock. He worked at and then owned a truck stop in Tracy, California for many years and later managed his own full-service gas station. In the 1960’s he began a career as an auto parts manager and continued in that line of work until his retirement.
Norville served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal.
Norville and his wife attended Harrisburg Baptist Church in Tupelo, Mississippi. He was a humble man that loved God, loved his wife, and loved his children and family. One of his great joys was to travel and visit with family. He also loved the St. Louis Cardinals and attended games whenever he could.
He is survived by Ruth Thiry, his loving wife of almost 50 years; his children, Judy French of Oakdale, California, Carol Uballe (Pete) of Riverbank, California, Mitchell Thiry (Ursula) of Piedmont, Oklahoma, Debbie New (Howard) of Glen Allan, Mississippi, Marc Thiry (Denise) of Berryville, Arkansas, and Diane Yielding (Tim) of Ratliff, Mississippi; 13 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, LaVerne Thiry, his son, Richard Kell, his son-in-law, Larry French and his granddaughter, Nicole Michelle Thiry.
