Olivia Watkins Spragins

Graveside services for Olivia Watkins Spragins, 94, of Madison will be at 11:30 a.m., Monday, January 21 at the Greenville Cemetery.  She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, MS, on January 18, 2019. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.

A native of Belen, MS, born December 25, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Robert Stewart Watkins and Lucille Jones Watkins. She attended MSCW in Columbus and Mississippi State University where she was a Class Favorite.

Mrs. Spragins taught piano in the Darling Public Schools and private lessons to children in the community.  She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century and she received recognition as the oldest member of the James Gilliam Chapter of the DAR.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Garden Club in Marks, MS. She also lived in Greenville where she raised three children.

She is preceded in death by her husband C.A. (Sonny) Spragins and grandson Peck Cranston. Her legacy lives on with her children, Allen Spragins (Sherry), Suzie Cranston (Phil), Martha Johnston (Gene); grandchildren Martha Waite Spragins, Ellis Spragins Wong (Galen), Dr. Ashley Hollowell (Caroline), Rep Cranston (Shelly), Suzanne Lambert (Andy), Searcy Veal Kay, Martha-Brooks Miller (Jeremy); and fourteen great grandchildren.

There will be a visitation from 10:30-11:30 a.m., on Monday at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Camp Looking Glass, P.O. Box 392, Greenville, MS, 38702 or to a charity of your choice.
