Oscar Floyd Wooten

Oscar Floyd Wooten, 97, a retired cattle rancher, died on February 4 ,2026, at his residence in Greenville, MS, and has gone home to be with his savior, Jesus Christ. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Stronghope Baptist Church Cemetery in Stronghope, MS. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville, MS.

Mr. Wooten, fondly referred to as “Sunny”, was born in Gary, Indiana, in 1928. Soon after, his family moved to Stronghope, MS. Sunny attended grade school in Stronghope and graduated from high school at Wesson High School. In 1948, he attended Ellisville Occupational School and completed watchman repair school in 1949. He then moved to Jackson, where he began his career working initially at Herman’s Jewler’s and Carter’s Jewelry before starting his own business. He worked for United Insurance Company of America, selling insurance, and slowly entered the cattle business. Sunny owned and operated his cattle ranch for many years in Raymond, MS, until the age of 93. In 1998, Sunny received the Mississippi Cattleman of the Year Award from the Mississippi Cattleman Association. He was a Mason, where he served as a Lifetime Member in good standing and was honored to be a Master Mason of Pearl Lodge 23. Sunny was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Montra Wooten, and a daughter, Danna Harris, both of Raymond, MS.; his mother, Evelyn Thatcher Wooten, and his father, William Houston Wooten of Stronghope, MS. He is survived by son, Greg Wooten of Jacksonville, Florida and two sisters, Monzelle Wooten and Sharon Brent both of Greenville, MS.
