Funeral services for Phyllis Ann Atkinson Springer, 81, of Leland will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Parkview Baptist Church, Leland. She died Sunday, January 26, 2014 at her home in Leland. Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
She was born in Maryland the daughter of Charles and Adele Atkinson, a child of a military family. She lived in Washington, D.C., Alexandria, VA and Bellingham, WA and Japan where she met James Springer. They moved back to the United States where they were married and had made their home in Leland since 1960. She was a nurse’s aide at Witte Memorial Hospital and later became head of Housekeeping retiring in the early 1980’s. She was an active member of Parkview Baptist Church in Leland.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2011, sister Jane Lanman, brother, Charles “Buddy” Atkinson and also her in-laws, Kathryn Blalack, Sue Slaton, Sally Stancill, Buddy Springer and Van Springer. She is survived by 2 daughters, Shirley S. Venuti of Leland and Barbara S. Greco (Joey) of Yazoo City; son, James Douglas Springer (Joyce) of Leland; 2 sisters, Barbara A. Carricaburu of Riverside, CA and Andrea A. Placker of Boron, CA; 9 granchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 3 sister-in-laws, Grace Metcalfe, Ruth Cross and Jenny McGaugh Vest; brother-in-law, Frank Springer and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and church family.
