Graveside services for Robert E. Derrow will be at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. He passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the State Veterans Home in Oxford. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Robert was born on August 13, 1928 in Harrisonburg, VA to Russell and Treva Derrow. He joined the U.S. Army serving from 1946 to 1947 and then later joined the U. S. Air Force serving from 1950 until 1969. Robert served during World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. While stationed at the Air Force Base in Greenville he met his wife, Elizabeth Wood and they married in 1954. After he retired from serving his country, the family moved back to Greenville in 1969 where he worked for Aetna Finance until 1982.
He loved working in the yard and traveling. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth, his parents, a daughter, Emily Derrow, four sisters, Ellen Derrow, Elaine Armentrout, Patricia Campbell and Lillian Elyard and by a brother, Raymond Derrow.
He is survived by two sons, Robert Derrow II (Beverly) and Russell Derrow; three daughters, Lisa Griffin, Dana Kent (Jimmy), and Susie Sullivan (David); seven grandchildren, Toby Derrow (Jamie), Kristan Mills (Dustin), Richard Griffin (Jessica), Adam Griffin, Rob Kent (Paige), Taylor Hathcock (Jason), and Sharon Reid (Tommy); six great grandchildren, Camille, Lola, and Vivian Reid, Rosalyn Griffin, Canton and Dallas Hathcock. He is also survived by three sisters, Naomi Comer (Wayne), Terry Shook (Charlie), Florine Taylor and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
