Funeral services for Robert Lee Cooper, Jr., 80, of Jackson will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 6 at Boone-Card Funeral Home, Indianola. He died Sunday, October 2. Burial will be in Linn Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Card Funeral Home, Indianola.
He was born in Schlater, MS on December 25, 1935. Robert was a 7th generation Mississippian.
Robert grew up in the Mississippi Delta and was graduated from Linn Consolidated High School where he was a star athlete. In 1957 he married his high school sweetheart, Sarah Ruth Sheppard and together they had four children. Robert made his living as an independent farm supply salesman and later as a catfish fingerling broker. He was an avid first tenor singer in gospel quartets for many years and was a long time member of Second Baptist Church in Indianola, MS. In 1992 the Coopers moved to Jackson to be closer to their children.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Clariece Dunlap and Robert Lee Cooper Sr., brother Walter Cooper, sisters Betty Cooper Bolden and Billie Cooper Castillo. He is survived by his wife Sarah Ruth Cooper, sons Danny Cooper (Denise) and Robert (Robb) Lee Cooper III (Helen) and daughters Pam Cooper Kelly and Mary Ann Cooper Spinks (Brad), eight grandchildren, Tyler Kelly, Cooper Kelly, Mary Hannah Cooper, Riley Cooper, Peter Cooper, Leland Spinks, Blair Spinks and Sarah Barden Spinks and sisters, Mary Earl Cooper Mayhan (Odom), Barbara Ann Cooper Vance and Geraldine Cooper Minga.
There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
