Funeral services for Robert Mitchell McClatchy III (Bob), 70, of Meridian will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Sunflower Methodist Church. He died in Meridian. Burial will be in the Indianola City Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Indianola.
He was born in Greenwood, MS, on February 5, 1953, to Jean Thomas and Robert Mitchell McClatchy Jr. (Bill), of Sunflower.
Bob was one of the early students of Indianola Academy and graduated in the second graduating class. Bob then went to Mississippi State University and after graduation went into
the Army. After the Army, Bob furthered his education at Delta State where he earned a master’s degree in counseling and a license in psychometry.
Bob then moved to Meridian to work with the Department of Human Services where he was a counselor with At-Risk Youth in the Lauderdale County Youth Court for 30 years.
Bob was a world traveler who visited many countries and also traveled throughout the United States. His last trip was this past summer when he rode the train cross country to the West Coast including a visit to Hollywood.
Bob was also an animal lover. He always had a dog, most recently he had Bootsie. Bob and Bootsie loved to ride around with Bootsie’s head hanging out of the window.
Bob was predeceased by both parents, Jean and Bill McClatchy. He leaves his brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Beverly McClatchy of Memphis; nephew Dr. Gray (Katie) McClatchy and their daughter Allie; two nieces, Mimi McClatchy and Meg (Mac) Cross and their children Bo and Livvy. He also leaves close first cousins Nancy (Jim) Woods, Toby (Jean) McClatchy, and Carolyn Garrard.
Bob never forgot that he was raised on the banks of the Sunflower River and returned several times each year to check on friends and family.
There will be a visitation from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Sunflower Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
