Memorial services for Samuel Ross Underwood, age 93, retired farmer and ginner of Greenville, were held at 3:00 p.m. today, Monday, January 22 at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Friday, January 19, 2018 at Delta Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Underwood was born in Maverick, Texas on May 25, 1924 to the late Samuel Holland and Ella Mae Underwood. He grew up in Sanderson, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He served at several Air Force bases, and his last assignment was at the Greenville Air Force base where he was an instructor. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be missed by all.
Mr. Underwood is survived by his wife of 28 years, Charlotte Redd Underwood; 2 sons, John Ross Underwood (Cyndi) of Greenville, MS and Lee Underwood (Candi) of Madison, MS; a daughter, Ann McClendon (Joe) of Hernando, MS; 2 step-daughters, Dawn Redd McGraw (Marty) of Hattiesburg, MS and Kim Russell Johansson (Ed) of Bay St. Louis, MS; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
