Funeral services for Sara Louise Godwin McWhorter, 81, of N. Little Rock, AR and formerly of Greenville will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. A visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the service time. She passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, in N. Little Rock, AR. Burial will be in the Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Sara was born on January 9, 1943, in Sylacauga, Alabama to her parents Prentiss and Louise Godwin. She was a longtime resident of Greenville, MS where she graduated from Greenville High School in 1961.
Upon graduation, Sara worked for the 7th Adventist Convention in Meridian, MS, and later was an employee of the Commercial Bank in Greenville. Sara was lastly a social administrator at Arnold Avenue Nursing Home in Greenville.
In May 2005, she married Gary McWhorter and moved to North Little Rock, AR. Sara had no children of her own but immediately became Meme, the grandmother of the four McWhorter grandchildren.
Gary soon retired, and they began a leisurely life of traveling and spending time at their timeshare in Missouri. They also enjoyed playing in the Heart Strings Band at church. She developed severe back pain, which eventually limited her travel.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Prentiss and Louise Godwin, and brother, Fred Godwin.
She is survived by her husband Gary McWhorter; two stepdaughters, Jeanne Alison (Steve) and Joan Thompson (Mike); four grandchildren, Jade, Preston, Garron, and Nicholas; nieces, Linda Doolittle (Jimmy) and Madilyn Britton; and nephews, Gary Godwin, Fred Godwin, Alan Godwin, Bryan Britton, Chad Britton, Joel Godwin, Kelby Godwin and Brett Britton.
