Sara Pamela Steele

 

Funeral services for Sara Pamela Avis Steele, 61, of Greenville, a retired elementary teacher, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, September 18, at First Baptist Church, Greenville, MS. She passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. Burial will be in County Line Cemetery, Glen Allan, MS. 

She was born in Hayti, Missouri, on March 10, 1954, the daughter of Betty Joyce McGregor Avis and the late William Everett Avis. She graduated from Saint Joseph High School in 1972 and from Delta State University in 1976. She taught elementary education for fourteen years at various schools in Washington County. 

Survivors include her husband, Gibb Steele, her son Gibson Steele (Elisabeth), granddaughters, Synar Christine Steele and Sarah Evelyn Steele, of Greenville, mother Betty Avis of Avon, one brother, Jim Avis (Kathy) of Greenville, two sisters, Debbie Veach (Ray) of Maumelle, AR and Carol Oakes (John) of Greenville. 

Pam was a best friend and blessing to many people. If anyone needed her, she was always there to help out and take charge. She was an avid Mississippi State University fan and spent many hours following the Bulldogs. Her two granddaughters, who knew her as “Nok Nok”, were the joy of her life. She spent many hours with her granddaughters and many of their friends. “Nok Nok” will be truly missed by all of her friends and family. 

The family will receive friends Thursday, September 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Avon United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital (848 Adams Avenue, Memphis, TN 38103), St. Jude Children’s Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105), Washington School Foundation (1605 East Reed Road, Greenville, MS 38703), and Avon United Methodist Church ( P.O. Box 127, Avon, MS 38723).
