Funeral services for Shirley Thomas, age 85, of Leland will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 23 at Leland United Methodist Church. She died Friday, December 20 at her home. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.
Mrs. Thomas was born June 3, 1934 in McLain, MS, daughter of Joe and Ethel Leeke. She graduated from Mississippi College with an education degree and married Sam Thomas. They made their home in Leland, and Shirley taught in the Leland Elementary School 3rd grade for 34 years. She was a member of the Leland United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years. She was an avid tennis and bridge player. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 sisters, and a brother.
She is survived by 3 sons, Sammy Thomas (Terri) of Oxford, MS , Kenny Thomas and Michael Thomas, both of Leland; a sister, Mary Thomas; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be made to the Leland United Methodist Church.
