Graveside services for Sue Dalton Dowdy, 82, of Greenville were held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at the Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home. John T. Burke, a dear and long time friend, officiated the service. She passed away in her home Tuesday, December 21, 2021.
Sue was born near Hayti, Missouri on May 15, 1939. Raised in Hayti, Sue met the love of her life, Billy Gene (B,G.) Dowdy, and married at the young age of 16 and was married until his death in 1997. A graduate of Southwestern of Memphis College, Sue taught school until moving to Greenville in 1971. She was a devoted wife and mother, and was known to all as “Sue Sue.”
Sue was an active member of the community and especially in her church, First Baptist Church of Greenville. For many years, Sue led the Community Bible Study and still was requested to come back even after she stepped down as leader.
Her family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers in Sue’s life. You were all “family” to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, B.G., son Derek, and her parents Russell and Glenna Dalton.
Sue is survived by her sons Grant (Kim) and Todd; Brother Gary Dalton (Melissa); four grandchildren Caitlin Erin Dowdy, David Grant Dowdy, Carson Stennis Walker and Julia Vaughn Walker; one great grandchild Abel Gratton Dowdy; two nieces Amy (David) Rixey and Julia (Ben) Sellers.
