Funeral services for Susan Brady Scott Blaine, age 67, of Greenville were at Trinity United Methodist Church on Monday, April 21st, at 11:00 am. She died Friday, April 18th at Delta Regional Medical Center. Graveside services were held at Greenville Cemetery immediately following the services.
Mrs. Blaine was born November 26, 1946 in Lexington, Virginia. She was the daughter of Elzie Lloyd and Eleanor Brady Armstrong Scott. She was an honor graduate of Greenville High School in 1964 and attended MUW for two years where she was a member of the D’Belles Social Club. She then attended Delta State University where she graduated with a BSE in Mathematics in 1968. While at Delta State, she was a member of Phi Mu Fraternity. After graduation, she taught algebra at Solomon Junior High School until moving to Washington School when it opened in the fall of 1969. She later received her MEd in Mathematics from Delta State.
Mrs. Blaine has taught math at Washington School for over 44 years. In those years she served as the Math Department Chairman, Junior Beta Club Sponsor, Junior High Cheerleader Sponsor and received many awards and recognition including the 25 Year Service Award and Lifetime Certification from the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools and the 30 Year Service Award National Beta Club. She was also a member Delta Kappa Gamma and served as State Music chairman and President of the Local Chapter.
Susan was also very active in Trinity United Methodist Church. She was the organist for over 45 years, and also served as Circle Leader, Worship Chairman, Communion Steward and was the President of the Greenwood District of the United Methodist Women.
Susan is survived by her husband, James (Bud) Blaine; they married at Trinity UMC on July 29, 1983. Other survivors include her brother, Mark Scott (Debbie) of West Point, MS, stepdaughters Linda Michelle Hargett and Sarah Elizabeth Woodward of Starkville, a niece, Captain Susan (Betsy) Scott of Centreville, VA, a nephew, Major Mark Scott, Jr. (Tracy McGarrh) of Madison, AL, stepgranddaughters Katie Hargett, Mary Beth Woodward, and Emma Woodward, and grandnephews William Lloyd Scott and Brady Eston Scott.
A visitation was in the parlor at Trinity from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Washington School, 1605 East Reed Road, Greenville, MS 38703, to recognize the Susan S. Blaine Outstanding Achievement in Mathematics.
