Funeral services for Sylvia Hester Nokes, 81, of Benoit will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Benoit Union Church, 301 Preston Street, Benoit, MS. She passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at her home. Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
She was born July 5, 1941, in Dixon, MS. She is survived by her son Robert Wesley Nokes, Jr (Stephanie) and daughter Renee Van Namen, grandchildren Wes Nokes (Heather), Joe Dan Nokes, Claire Conn, Rob Van Namen (Ally) and Laura Leigh Parker (A.C) and one sister, Jeanette Graham.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wesley Nokes Sr., aka “Smokey”. He was the love of her life, they were married for 33 years. Her parents Woodfin and Mabel Hester, and 3 older brothers Ed, Oliver, and Austin Hester.
Sylvia deeply loved spending time with family and friends. Some of her favorite times were spent with her great-grandchildren: Landon, Luke, Lex Parker, Remi, Reed and Rush Conn, John Ryan and Heidi Nokes. Granny was beyond excited about the upcoming birth of her 9th grandchild, Adler Van Namen.
Sylvia loved the Lord and was dedicated to Benoit Union Church. She loved her choir and church family.
She enjoyed many years making great friends while working at D&PL, and Benoit Outing Club, and ended her career with Blackmon Auctions 1992-2020.
There will be a visitation at 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. The family requests memorials be made to Benoit Union Church.
Pallbearers will be Travis, Kirk, and Warren Satterfield, Charlie Nelson, Bill Hester, and Bobby Mitchell.
