Funeral services for Thelma Turner Holland, 96, of Hollandale will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at the Hollandale Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. with the service to follow.
Mrs. Holland passed away on July 30, 2024. She was born on February 29, 1928 to Leroy and Thelma Turner. She graduated from Hollandale High School in Hollandale and attended Bellhaven University in Jackson, graduating with a Home Economics degree. She later attended Delta State University earning a degree in elementary education.
Mrs. Holland worked a short time at Twin County Electric in Hollandale before beginning her extensive teaching career. The majority of her teaching career was spent teaching third grade at Deer Creek School before retiring at age 81. She was also the pianist for all events at Deer Creek School elementary and high school.
Mrs. Holland was a member of Hollandale Methodist Church where she played the piano every Sunday until health issues prevented her playing.
Mrs. Holland was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister and one brother. She is survived by two sons, Lane Turner Holland and Paul Holland (Jennifer) of Hollandale; three grandchildren, Bryan Frank Holland (Ashley) of Greenville, Paul Turner Holland (Meghan) of Southaven, and Caroline Holland Stringfellow (Danny) of Leland, and three great-grandchildren, Landry, Anna Leigh, and Hosea. She is also survived by one sister, Ada Lee Malone of Fayetteville, AR.
