Thomas J. Turfitt, Sr.

Funeral Mass for Thomas Jacobs Turfitt, Sr., 93, of Foley, AL and formerly of Greenville will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He died Wednesday, September 27 at Diversicare Nursing Home in Foley, AL. Burial will be in the Greenville City Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. 

Mr. Turfitt was born on November 21, 1923 in Greenville the son of Thomas Turfitt and Maude Williams Turfitt. He grew up in Hollandale and graduated from Riverside High School. After graduation he joined the U. S. Navy where he was trained as a Navy pilot and served during World War II. Mr. Turfitt married Rose Ann Maranto on January 8, 1950, and they were married for 64 years. He worked for 42 years at Friedman Steel Company and retired in 1992. In 2004, he moved to Ridgeland where he lived until entering a nursing home in Alabama. 

Mr. Turfitt was the greatest father, grandfather and great grandfather that anyone could have ever asked for and he loved and was loved by everyone. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. 

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2015; his parents, by two sons, Thomas Jacobs Turfitt, Jr., and Kenneth Louis Turfitt and by a brother, John Tillman Turfitt, Sr. He is survived by two daughters, Terri T. Haynes (Jim) of Foley, AL and Angela T. Ferguson (Greg) of Madison; 7 grandchildren, Amber Kidd of Jackson, Tommy Turfitt III (Holly) of Bay St. Louis, MS, Baxter Turfitt (Kaley) of Bay St. Louis, MS, Ryan Caldwell of Foley, AL, Chris Caldwell (Melanie) of Daphne, AL, Reid Lefler of Lake Charles, LA and Morgan Wilson (Robert) of Pearl, MS and 13 great grandchildren. 

There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the church.
