Virginia Elizabeth Clemons Hyer

Funeral services for Virginia Elizabeth Clemons Hyer, also known as “Memama”, 90, of Leland will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Leland United Methodist Church, with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. She was called home peacefully to be with our Lord, Thursday, January 27, 2022. Interment will be at Hollandale Cemetery immediately following the services. Boone Funeral Home, Leland is in charge of services.

Virginia Elizabeth Clemons was born July 30, 1931, in McAllen, Texas to Roy Allen Clemons and Emma Lee Bouler Clemons. She married Donald Ford Hyer on May 15, 1946. She was a loving wife and mother of four daughters. She was a homemaker for much of her life and was past president of Washington County Home Demonstration Club as well as past president of Hollandale Garden Club. She was also a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a wonderful seamstress, creating everything from Barbie doll clothes to prom dresses for her girls. After her daughters were older, she joined the workforce and worked as a secretary, a retail salesperson, a hotel clerk, and retired as a bank teller.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Clemons and Emma Lee Fleming; her husband, Donald Ford Hyer; her son, Donald Ford Hyer, Jr.; her daughter, Melissa Elizabeth Hyer Jones; her sister and brother-in-law, Dona and William Walker, her brother, Wade Allen Clemons; and her son-in-law, Edgar E. Wicks, Jr.

She is survived by her daughters; GiGi(Chuck)Haynes, Donna Wicks, Brenda(Dale)Persons, her grandchildren; Maury(Tim)Sumja, Callie(David)Bell, Kim (Trent) Hammond, Amanda (Justin) Jefcoat, Emily(Matt)Gnemi, Dee (Gina) Haynes, Rae Anne(Jason)Ingram, Jamie (Jasmine) Merchant and Elliott(Tonya)Wicks; as well as eighteen great grandchildren, Haden and Spencer Roberson, Tory (Matthew)Graham, Katie and Addison Bell; Maddie and Hayes Hammond; Jess(Hunter)Chappell, Sara Wicks; Bo, Hunter, and Cam Howard; Turner Haynes; Ann Lamar Jefcoat; Matthew and James Hyer Gnemi Ethan and Eliza Ingram, and two great-great grandsons, Aidan and Warner Graham, plus numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she dearly loved.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Cirilli, and Grace Hospice, Doris Little, Laurie Jones, Debra Russell, and Tammy Clolinger for the wonderful care they provided ”Memama” and her family members for the past 18 months. We are forever grateful.
