Vivian Bell Ferguson

Funeral services for Vivian Bell Ferguson, 81, of Kingsport, TN and formerly of Hollandale will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2020 at First United Methodist Church in Hollandale.  She died of heart failure Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at her home in Kingsport, TN.  Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.

She was born on September 18, 1938 in Glen Allan, MS to Fred and Gwendolyn Bell.  The family moved several times around the south before settling in Hollandale, MS in 1942 where they owned and operated Bell’s Grocery.  Vivian graduated from Hollandale High School in 1956 where she was named Miss Hollandale High and received the D.A.R. Good Citizenship Award.  She was the drum majorette for the Hollandale Tigers and was an accomplished twirler competing all over MS.  A lover of all sports, she rarely missed Bart or Tammy’s ball games. She owned the café in Hollandale and worked in several administrative positions before retiring from Guaranty Bank.  After retirement, she was very involved with the local Woodmen of the World Chapter and an active member of the Red Cross and Disaster Relief Team.   Although she was truly a “MS girl”, she moved to Kingsport, TN in August 2019 to be closer to her daughter.  Our “Mama B” will be greatly missed by all who knew her and mostly by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who loved her deeply.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Gwendolyn Bell of Hollandale; her husband, Travis Ferguson Sr. of Greenville; her former husband, Fieldon Bartley Boykin of Hollandale (father of her children Bart & Tammy); and her son, Bart Boykin (Christy) of Hollandale.

She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Vaughan (Stacy) of Kingsport, TN;  step-children Gaye Thomas (Steve) of Trinity, NC, Tanya Long (Curt) of Palm Harbor, FL, Jan Borrego (Joseph) of Northglenn, CO, James Shirey (Liz) of Malvern, AR, Travis Ferguson, Jr. of Batesville, Chery Johnson (Floyd) of Hernando, Alice Shirey of Olive Branch; and her sister Barbara Bell Buckner of Leland; nineteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.

There will be a visitation from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday prior to the services at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hollandale United Methodist Church.
