Walker Alexander Jones, Jr.

Walker Alexander Jones, Jr. passed away at age 74 on April 8, 2022. A celebration of life will be on Saturday, April 23, 2022. Mass will be at eleven o’clock in the morning at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Greenville, Mississippi followed by inurnment at the Stoneville Cemetery by Boone Funeral Home at two o’clock in the afternoon.

Walker was born in Memphis, Tennessee on July 5, 1947. He was the son of the late Walker Alexander Jones, Sr. and Dorothy Gale Greer Jones. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in Greenville, Mississippi. He served as Chief Warrant Officer 2 in the United States Army, helicopter pilot with Charlie Troop, 1st Squadron, 9th Calvary Regiment of the 1st Calvary Division from 1970-1971 where he was awarded the Bronze Star with “V”. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Mississippi in 1973 and received his Ph.D. in Entomology from Clemson University in 1979. Upon graduation he began his career with the USDA, from which he retired. During his tenure with the USDA, he conducted research in biological control and made substantial contributions to research in his field.

Walker is survived by his loving wife, Linda Bell Jones of Greenville, Mississippi, his children Wendy Walker Jones (Ryan) and Jay Livingston Jones (Sara) and his five grandchildren, Emma, Jay Jr., Zoe, Phoenix, and Penelope as well as his siblings Greer Smith (James), Nancy Blackmon (Bryan), and Jay Jones. Sister-in-law Anne Woods Jones. He is pre-deceased by his brother Gary Eugene Jones.

There will be a visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Saturday at the church.
