Funeral services for Walter Allen Sanders, Sr., 71, of Greenville will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Delta Regional Medical Center. Burial will be in Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
Mr. Sanders was a Delta native and longtime Greenville resident. He was born on January 28, 1942 in Darlove and grew up in Anguilla. He was a proud veteran and served in the United States Army from 1966-1968. He was a leader in the Mississippi petroleum industry with forty-four years of experience taking care of the energy needs of the Mississippi Delta. Allen was the founder of Mid-South Petroleum, Sanders Oil Company, co-founder of Petro Mark, and Sanders Resource. He was employed by Serv-U-Petroleum. He was also a founding member of the American Fuel Producers, a leader in refining technology.
Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife, Paula Harper Sanders of Greenville; son, Walter “Buddy” Allen Sanders, Jr. of Starkville; a sister, Ann Arnold of Southaven; step-son, Harper Cribbs Ross of Leland; 2 step-daughters, Stephanie Ross Stewart of Oxford and April Ross Barranco of Cumming, GA; and 7 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Boone Funeral Home.
