William Charles McKamy, Jr.

Graveside services for William Charles McKamy, Jr., 64, of Pensacola, FL will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 11 at Greenfield Cemetery in Glen Allan.  He died peacefully at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, FL as the sun rose on Easter Sunday, April 21.  The Reverend Carrie Duncan will officiate.

Charles was born in Greenwood, MS to the late William Charles and Mary Adelyn Milam McKamy on June 12, 1954.  He attended public schools in Glen Allan and Greenville before completing his high school education at the Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA.  He graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA where he made life long friends and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

Following his graduation Charles farmed for a number of years on the family farm at Chatham, MS.  He then moved to Destin, FL and thereafter to Pensacola where he was a communicant of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church and served as an usher.

Charles is survived by his sisters, Charlotte McKamy of Mary Esther, FL and Brucie McKamy Mintz of Chatham, MS; his nephew, Ben Mintz of Shreveport, LA, niece, Charlotte Mintz Muir (John) and great nephew Shep Muir of Highlands, NC.

Charles was affectionately known as “Buck” to his friends. He loved gardening and horticulture, music, and his dogs, and was a coffee expert and aficionado, roasting his own beans and sharing with friends.  He fought the significant health concerns of his later years with great courage and dignity.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 320 N. 12th Avenue, Pensacola, FL  32522 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
