Funeral services for William Henry Hemphill, 74, of Leland will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Boone Funeral Home, Leland. He passed away on Friday, August 12, 2022. At the conclusion of the service, Bill will take his final ride in his truck.
He was born on April 14, 1948 to Helen and Henry Hemphill.
He married his beautiful wife Linda in 1981, and together they raised their four children: Will Hemphill, Jennifer Lyons (kenny), Jamey Smith (Jessica), and Jeremy Smith.
Affectionately known as Blue Diamond or “Legend”, Bill worked tirelessly as a truck driver, hauling for local farmers. It was his profession that he whole-heartedly loved simply because of the close friendships he formed with not only the farmers, but also with the other drivers. He never met a stranger, and could immediately make anyone feel welcome wherever he was. He was also an avid music enthusiast, and could talk for hours to anyone who would listen.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Henry Hemphill, his son, Will Hemphill and his aunt, Wanda Ross.
He is survived by his wife and children, his brother Johnny (Patty) Hemphill of Leland, sisters Beverly (Tom) Moffett of Ripley, MS and Linda Chatman of Arkansas. Bill is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Zackary Hambrick, Jason Dunn, Mallory Lyons, Matthew Lyons, Kenny Lyons, Lake Roncelli, Raven Tarver, Madison Steed, John Tanner Lindsey, and Paxton Etheridge. He was also blessed with a slew of great-grandchildren as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
There will be a visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Instead of flowers, the family asks that memorials or donations be made either to the family to help with the cost of the funeral or a charity of your choice.
