Funeral Mass for William Samuel (Bill) Allen, 91, of Indianola will be at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 15 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Indianola. He passed away Wednesday, December 7 at South Sunflower County Hospital. Burial will be in Indianola City Cemetery under the direction of Boone-Card Funeral Home, Indianola.
He was born on November 10, 1925 in Greenwood to Charles and Blanche Allen. He was a graduate of Anguilla High School, where he excelled in several sports and played the trumpet in the band. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Air Force. After his discharge he attended Mississippi State University.
Bill grew up in the Mississippi Delta and lived in several towns in the South during his childhood. His father worked for Staple Cotton and the family moved several times as his dad worked farms out of debt.
He developed tuberculosis and spent approximately 2 years in the Veterans Hospital in Memphis, TN where he met Norma Andrews, one of his nurses, and she became his wife on October 12, 1955.
He worked in farming and real estate and eventually was hired as a salesman for The Lewis Grocer Company (now SuperValu). He worked his way up to assistant buyer, grocery buyer, Director of Merchandising and retired as Vice President of Merchandising.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles Allen. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma Allen; his 3 daughters, Linda Allen and Kathy Allen of Marietta, GA and Sharon Allen-Peterson and her husband Don of Roswell, GA and grandson, Cade Peterson of Roswell, GA.
There will be a visitation one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Indianola or the charity of your choice.
