Willie Odom Moore “Billie” Burns

Funeral services for Willie Odom Moore “Billie” Burns, 97, of Leland will be at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 20 at Boone Funeral Home, Leland.  She died Friday, January 15 at her home surrounded by family and friends when she went to meet the Lord.  Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery.

Billie was born in Siddon, MS on August 8, 1918.  She married Wade Burns of Ethel, MS.  While he served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific, she supported the war effort here at home in a factory in Grenada.  When Mr. Burns returned from the war, they farmed the family farm in Cleveland.  In 1952, they purchased land in North Washington County.  Billie and Wade farmed and raised three children on the farm.

She was a wonderful cook, seamstress and faithful member of her church. She enjoyed Bible study class, teaching Girl Scouts and vacation Bible school, and many more hobbies that she excelled in.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Wade in 1989.  Billie is survived by a son, Wade Burns of Leland; two daughters, Barbara Mauney of Collierville, TN and Debbie Anderson of Durango, CO; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

There will be a visitation from 1:30-3:00 p.m., Wednesday at Boone Funeral Home, Leland.  Rev. John Burke of Fairview Baptist Church and Bro. Steve Burton of DRMC Hospice will be officiating.
