Willie Sue Shumaker

Funeral services for Willie Sue Shumaker, 83, of Leland will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Boone Funeral Home, Leland. She was called home Wednesday, April 23, 2014 to the arms of the Lord she spent her life faithfully serving. Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.

Sue was born in Ethel, MS on August 21, 1930 to Victor and Annie Sue Brown.  She attended Ethel High School where she played basketball, a sport she grew to love and spent many hours watching.  After marrying, she and her husband relocated to Leland where they raised their five daughters and made a lifetime of cherished memories.

She enjoyed spending her days catching up with friends on the phone, watching Wheel of Fortune, and visiting with anyone willing to stop by.  Those who knew “Miss Sue” knew she was an excellent cook who loved to bring her family and loved ones together through meals.  She was a kind and compassionate woman who always stood ready to bring a covered dish to those in need or simply as a gesture to let them know they were loved.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, James Larry Shumaker in 1956, her husband, James Horace Shumaker in 1983, and a grandson, James Michael Jackson in 2001.  She is survived by 5 daughters, Sandra S. Jones (Phil) of Flora, MS, Glenda S. Bryant of Leland, MS, Sherry S. Hays of Ridgeland, MS, Becky S. Alexander of Leland, MS and Cindy S. Bingham (Butch) of Booneville, MS; 2 brothers, Jack Brown of Dublin, GA and Billy Joe Brown of Carthage, MS.  She was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren whom she would gladly spend hours talking about.  They, along with her daughters, will always remember her as an outstanding example of unconditional love and as a woman of incredible faith in Christ, even through life’s toughest storms.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 p.m., Friday, April 25, 2014 at Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
