Wilma Pittman Brown

Memorial services for Wilma Pittman Brown, 91, of Leland will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 13 at First Baptist Church Sanctuary, Leland. Her full and long life ended March 11, 2015. A family service will be held in the Leland-Stoneville Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.  

Mrs. Brown a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was born September 26, 1923 in Boyle, Mississippi to the late Earline and Noel Pittman. Mrs. Brown graduated from Boyle High School and later Delta State University in 1946. After moving to Leland in 1946, Mrs. Brown taught first grade for three years in the Leland School system. She was involved in many church and civic activities. Mrs. Brown was an active member of the First Baptist Church, serving many years as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, as well as on other numerous committees. In the community, she was a Leland Junior Auxiliary Lifetime member and Deer Creek Garden Club Charter member. Being a great supporter of education, Mrs. Brown was a devoted PTA member for more than twenty-five years. 

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Maurice Brown and her brother, Jim Pittman. She is survived by her four children: daughters, Beverly Bell and husband Jim of Greenville, MS, Jane Brown and husband Ronnie of Dallas, TX, and Marcia Vanlandingham and husband George of Leland, MS, and son Joseph Brown and wife Mary Ann of Germantown, TN; sister, Anne Lipe and husband Grover of San Antonio, TX; ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and special caregivers Gloria Chatman and Georgia Jones. Mrs. Brown shared her past three years with her dear friends and devoted staff of Magnolia Gardens in Greenville. 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Leland First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 286, Leland, MS 38756 or one’s favorite charity.
